Pistol Firing Line

The pistol range is an outdoor range. It is 30 yards deep with high berms on 3 sides. There are 10 shooting bays. Covered and enclosed on 3 sides. A wood burning stove with wood is available on those's coldest of days making shooting in extreme weather comfortable. The range is also equip with night time high intensity lighting. Our range provides practice and maneuvers for the Florence Police Department, the State Police Department, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Forest Service, Tribal Police from Three Rivers Casino and other coastal law agencies.

We have a Cowboy Action group called "The Siuslaw River Rangers" which is headed up by John LaRocco. This club is affiliated with SASS. For further information on how you can become a member please email John Larocco or go to his web site Johnny Thundersticks.

The club has an IDPA organization called The Emerald Coast Defensive Shooters. The practice sessions are on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month (weather permitting) from 6pm to 8:30pm and their Match is on the 3rd. Saturday of each month. For more information contact Wally (Stuart) Shoults or download the Emerald Coast Defensive Shooters information by clicking here (pdf format).

What is IDPA?
IDPA is The International Defensive Pistol Association.  It is a shooting sport that uses practical equipment, including full charge service ammunition, to solve simulated “real world” self-defense scenarios.

IDPA shooting events require use of practical handguns and holsters that are truly suitable for concealed carry self-defense.

The Curriculum
Since this sport requires drawing a loaded firearm from a holster, and movement with a loaded firearm in the hands, there are some basic techniques that must be learned in order to perform these tasks safely.  These techniques include, but are not limited to: Loading and unloading the weapon, drawing from the holster and re-holstering, gripping the firearm with strong hand, weak hand, and free-style; sight alignment, trigger control, reloading (re-load w/ retention, tactical reload & slide lock), moving with a drawn gun, shooting stances, including barricade shooting, Clearing malfunctions, range commands and procedures.
